Three videos that are as beautiful as they are painful to watch. I deliberately ignored reading anything about the 50th anniversary of our President's demise - I just didn't want to. It marks a time in our life after which everything went downhill. Nothing would be the same, and for those old enough to remember, we knew in our hearts it was the beginning of the end. I suppose I don't want to look at it because nothing good came from it - it tore a world apart and by doing so, made room for corruption to seep into the very marrow of life.
I remember that day. Astounded to watch my second grade teacher (who was a mean bitch) cry tears of great sadness and loss. A solemnity overcame the classroom from which we were quietly dismissed. I went home and found more of the same dreaded emotion had permeated the atmosphere there, also. I don't think I spoke for three days. In my little kid head I was waiting for it to be alright again - I waited for someone to step in who would be more handsome, smarter and with more daring in him than the one who he was to replace. This never happened. We were on our own without a leader - even as a child I knew what this meant. It meant that whatever followed would be inferior, a band-aid effect, and it would never mend what happened. Once innocence is stolen, it can never be returned.
But as for these video, the footage of Jackie in her equestrian glory is gorgeous. The land, the view, the happiness, and, yes, even the simplicity, is experienced in these silent home movies. We cannot help but to become teary-eyed at seeing some of these moments. Enjoy watching, though it may prove bittersweet. -S.C.-
