Victory: Senate to Kill Monsanto Protection Act Amid Outrage

In a major victory brought upon by serious activism and public outrage, new legislation changes will shut down the Monsanto Protection Act rider that granted Monsanto protection from legal action and was set to renew on September 30th.

This unprecedented move shows the true power of the anti-GMO, anti-Monsanto movement, and how elected officials are now being forced to side with the concerned population over the money-spewing Monsanto. After all, it was Monsanto who purchased its way into the initial Senate spending bill legislation via a rider dubbed the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’  through Senator Roy Blunt.

ECO-REVOLUTION: GMO Crops Torched in America

GM crops were burned in India last year.  A few weeks ago the same thing in Hungary.  Followed by destroying  a shipment of GMO produce imported to China.  Now 40 tons of sugar beets were torched in Oregon.  Not to mention that Japan has refused to import GMO crops.  A pattern is beginning to develop, and it does not look good for Monsanto.  And why isn't the media reporting these stories?  It's the long arm of the Monsanto Corporation that has a stranglehold on the media, and any negative news about the company is banned from being broadcast.  Except here.  -S.C.-

Though the controlled corporate media apparatus is suppressing the story, 40 tons of GMO crops were torched, prompting an FBI investigation. There has been a COMPLETE MEDIA BLACKOUT, outside of local circles has dared to mention it, perhaps because government fears that if the public learns that other people are getting fighting mad (literally), they might join in, and become an actual revolution. It was only reported locally live on KXL Radio and echoed by the Oregonian, where the ONLY web mention exists, hard to find because the headline wording is carefully avoids the most likely keywords for a search.

Here’s what happened — 40 Tons of GMO Sugar Beets were set ablaze in Oregon, yesterday. FORTY TONS — the entire acreage of two full fields of crops IN THE GROUND were set ablaze over a THREE NIGHT PERIOD OF TIME. That means ARSON.

 Chinese Government Destroys Multiple Shipments of GMO Corn

China seems to be making alternative news headlines all over the planet by destroying several large shipments of genetically-modified (GM) corn and corn seeds originating from the United States. At least three shipments of GM corn were detected at the Wanzai Port in Zhuhai City when government officials successfully intercepted them. Another several cartons of GM corn seeds were destroyed in the northern Chinese city of Harbin.

China has a law in place that states any importing of GMOs must be accompanied by the appropriate environmental and food safety tests by Chinese chosen institutions, not the biotech companies that manufacture the food. Yet in the United States and Canada, they reject simple GMO labelling that would let citizens know what they are eating. You can read more about that here.

Monsanto is now in full retreat against a global grassroots rejection of its poisons and lies. The company is backpedaling on every front now, even admitting defeat in Europe and now trying to focus its last, desperate efforts on the United States and Brazil.

But even in the Americas, Monsanto is losing on every front: GMO labeling legislation is cropping up in over a dozen states, the global March Against Monsanto demonstrated global grassroots unity against GMOs, and even the so-called "science" behind the "safety" GMOs is revealed as utter hogwash now that GMOs have escaped Monsanto's experimental wheat fields and contaminated commercial wheat crops in America.

Japan has halted U.S. wheat imports and South Korea joined in as well. Ben & Jerry's ice cream company has announced it is going 100% GMO-free, and massive boycotts are under way against brands that tried to block the GMO labeling ballot measure in California (Prop 37).

Investors drove down the price of Monsanto shares by 4 percent on Friday as South Korea joined Japan in suspending imports of U.S. wheat after an unapproved strain of genetically modified wheat was discovered in a field in eastern Oregon.

The strain of wheat, designed to resist harmful effects from Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller, was never commercially developed by the St. Louis-based agriculture giant in large part because wheat growers did not want to risk retaliation from their biggest export markets.

Fields used to test new crop varieties are burned and checked for surviving crops. So the mysterious appearance of the Monsanto wheat has raised questions about how the strain traveled there and whether it is lurking in the commercial wheat crop.

As a precaution, South Korea, which last year bought about half of its wheat imports from the United States, said it would halt purchases while it runs tests this weekend on wheat and flour that it has already imported. The European Union is also testing supplies.

Japan has suspended imports of some US wheat after genetically engineered crops were found on an Oregon farm, a government official said Friday.

Tokyo's move came as the European Union told its member states to test imports from the area, saying any genetically modified wheat would not be sold to consumers.

Japan's farm ministry on Thursday cancelled a bid for 25,000 tonnes of Western White, a soft white wheat produced in the Pacific northwest, a ministry official said, in the wake of the discovery of the modified wheat.

Video: CNN Covers The "March Against Monsanto"

A very thorough story on this past weekend's international "March Against Monsanto" by Main Stream Media news outlet CNN.

The newscaster in the beginning introduction flubs a few syllables when he tries to say pesticides and flubs again just after that.  I did have to wonder if he was coached to do that, because he does seem a little nervous.  Pretty sad stuff considering this is coming from a highly-polished news anchor at CNN. 

But despite attempts to swallow a few key words early in the piece, the story recovers nicely and gives an accurate account of what the protest was about.  They insert a newspaper headline about the suicides in India, which is a very tragic and key factor in the discussion against Monsanto.

They interview this guy Moss who was kinda sorta the counterpoint, but who comes off seeming weak.  And ridiculous - what's with the fake Groucho Marx eye brows?

In what looked like a potential media blackout, CNN comes around and does the right thing.  It's a good day for The Cause.  -S.C.-

Hungary Destroys All Monsanto GMO Corn Fields

This is great news!  Momentum is building regarding the outrage against Monsanto.  -S.C.-

Hungary has taken a bold stand against biotech giant Monsanto and genetic modification by destroying 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds, according to Hungary deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar. Unlike many European Union countries, Hungary is a nation where genetically modified (GM) seeds are banned. In a similar stance against GM ingredients, Peru has also passed a 10 year ban on GM foods.

Monsanto is an american multinational corporation founded in the early 1900′s by John Francis Queeny. It’s no coincidence that he was a veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. Monsanto and the people that govern it hide behind the classification of multinational corporations and political labels in order to implement their desired agenda. Why on Earth is our food being manufactured by the largest pesticide company in the world?

Food is supposed to give us health and nourishment, but today our food contains toxins that are without question a major threat to our health. Toxic chemicals are added to our food supply simply through production, harmful pesticide residue and genetic engineering of seeds and crops. Even food packaging can be a source of toxins in food. 

Why are we allowing poisonous and toxic chemicals to enter into our food supply? What type of corporation would try to persuade the population that it is a good thing? Monsanto would, it’s no coincidence that the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries are so well connected. The most common argument against this fact is “well, I don’t know”, which is not much of an argument at all. In fact, everything we use in our daily lives can often be traced back to a group of families and the corporations they run.

A recent two-day protest in Northern California against  genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) led to the complete shutdown of a Monsanto  corporate office for an entire day, according to reports. On Friday, March 16,  2012, activists affiliated with the Global Days of Action to Shut Down  Monsanto began rallying in front of the Davis, Calif., office of Monsanto,  where they held up banners, gave speeches, and set up tents in front of the  Monsanto building on Fifth Street, which caused the biotech giant to shutter its  operations.

US, Brazil, France, India…Monsanto Still Causing GM Grief – But Not for Much Longer

Stephen: Agricultural giant Monsanto hasn’t given up on it’s GM (genetically-modified) trail of destruction. But the tide is turning as people everywhere wake up to the company’s lack of ethics and environmental empathy.
