Now's our chance! Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) is pushing for a Senate vote to repeal the Monsanto Protection Act. (Maybe you heard about this on the Daily Show? If not, we've got the clip for you here.) We have to act fast, as this will be an amendment to the 2013 Farm Bill which goes to the floor of the Senate on Monday, May 20!
Get Monsanto back under the control of the federal courts. Please sign the letter below asking your senators to repeal the Monsanto Rider by voting for the Merkley amendment to the 2013 Farm Bill. Then reinforce your message by calling your senators today.
The Monsanto Protection Act requires the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a temporary permit for planting or cultivating a genetically engineered crop, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed.
That’s right, even the federal courts can't stop Monsanto from planting unproven, potentially dangerous crops while this rule remains law.
For more on why we opposed the Monsanto Protection Act in the first place, read this article by Ronnie Cummins. Then sign the letter below! Thank you!
