The command position means the place from where you can see or are facing the point of entry of the room.

Good desk placement, plus a welcoming feeling for visitors. |
Whether it's your desk at home or at work, or it's your bed, your stove or your favorite comfy chair in the family room, you always want to be sure that these important objects are placed in correct relationship to the entrance of the room. The command position is perhaps one of the most important aspects of the Feng Shui of your home and one that yields a great deal of influence in personal perception.
The purpose of the command position is to disallow unexpected surprises in our life; it creates a protective energy in our home and in our mind. The effects of Feng Shui are not lost on our emotions -- the positive changes in our mood when we awaken the Chi of our environment can range from subtle to profound. After all, we are the energy of our home and vice versa.
Be certain that from your bed you can see full-on the door of the bedroom. This creates a sound sense of security because you have a perfect view of what is coming and going, and will therefore not be caught off-guard in other areas of your life. This feeling of security enhances that part of us that likes knowing what is around us, and signals to us that we are grounded and safe. If the bed is at a ninety degree angle to the door, that is perfectly fine. Additionally, it's important to note that the foot of the bed should not be directly in front of the door.
The command position should also be applied to your office desk or work station whether it is at home or at your place of employment. It is a common mistake when working at home that people often place the desk facing the wall and therefore have their back in a vulnerable position. It is imperative that the desk be turned toward the door. This gives you a much broader sense of the room, it opens up the field of vision, and you don't feel the restraint of being "up against the wall".
The same rule applies to the placement of the stove in the kitchen. Be sure that you can see the door when you are standing at the stove. Ideally you are also facing the direction of the main entrance of the house. You don't necessarily need to see the front door, it is enough that you can mentally take note of your proximity to it. Since the stove is an item that cannot be moved once installed, there are a few cures that can be applied if the appliance does not meet these criteria. One of them is to place a mirror above or to the side of the stove that provides you a line of sight to the door. This will put you at ease, open up the space and make the kitchen feel more welcoming.
Feeling safe and secure at home, especially while sleeping, is a very primary requirement that plays out in the other areas of our life. Placing yourself at the command position offers a better sense of stability. By implementing the command position you are less likely to be caught off guard -- you will feel more in control and less vulnerable to fluctuations that life can present.
